Lead youth engagement in Kent for St John Ambulance. Support and grow youth and student volunteering, champion youth voice, coordinate programmes, and empower young people to make a difference through leadership, collaboration, and innovation.

What will you be doing?

County Youth Lead

Empower young people. Shape communities. Lead with purpose.

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of children and young people? Do you believe in the power of youth to positively impact their communities? St John Ambulance is looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated volunteer to take on the role of County Youth Lead, a pivotal leadership position supporting youth engagement and development across your local area.

As County Youth Lead, you'll play a vital role in ensuring young people (aged 5–25) and student volunteers feel valued, connected, and empowered. You will champion youth voice, drive excellence in our youth programmes, and collaborate with teams to create meaningful opportunities that support personal growth and community contribution.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Champion Youth Engagement: Advocate for the needs and priorities of young people, ensuring their voices shape local volunteering and leadership opportunities.
  • Support Programme Delivery: Work with local leaders to ensure St John youth programmes and volunteering activities are inclusive, high-quality, and aligned with national goals.
  • Grow Youth Leadership: Collaborate with key partners to create pathways for young people to grow into confident leaders.
  • Coordinate Across Networks: Lead the delivery of joint youth initiatives across multiple communities, ensuring consistency and shared learning.
  • Promote Best Practice: Encourage innovation, share success stories, and support ethical and sustainable delivery of youth services.

What are we looking for?

To succeed in this role, we’re looking for someone who is:

1. A Strong LeaderYou can inspire and guide others, facilitate meetings, and help teams achieve shared goals. You may have formal leadership experience, or have shown leadership in volunteering, education, or youth settings.

2. Passionate About Youth WorkYou genuinely enjoy working with children and young people, and are committed to helping them grow, thrive, and make a difference in their communities.

3. A Skilled CommunicatorYou’re confident and clear when communicating with different audiences—whether that’s young people, volunteers, community leaders, or national teams.

4. A Team PlayerYou build relationships easily, collaborate well with others, and value different perspectives. You’re happy to work across teams and share best practice.

5. Organised and ProactiveYou can manage tasks, coordinate activities, and keep things moving. You take initiative and are comfortable working independently when needed.

6. Committed to Inclusion and SafeguardingYou believe in creating safe, inclusive environments where every young person feels welcome and respected. You’re aware of safeguarding responsibilities and take them seriously.

7. Enthusiastic and PositiveYou bring energy, compassion, and a can-do attitude. You're ready to make a real impact and help others do the same.

Any of the following:

  • Experience managing or supporting volunteers
  • Skills in coaching or mentoring
  • Experience leading geographically spread or remote teams
  • Budgeting or planning experience

What difference will you make?

As a County Youth Lead with St John Ambulance, you will have a powerful and lasting impact on both individual lives and entire communities. Your leadership will help shape a generation of young people who are confident, skilled, and inspired to serve others.

Through your guidance, children and young people will gain access to high-quality youth programmes that not only teach lifesaving skills like first aid but also build confidence, teamwork, and leadership. You will help create safe, inclusive environments where young people feel heard, valued, and empowered to lead and make meaningful contributions to their communities.

Your support will enable student volunteers to thrive, unlocking opportunities for them to grow personally and professionally while giving back. By championing youth voice, you’ll ensure that local volunteering truly reflects the needs and aspirations of young people.

You will also play a key role in expanding and strengthening youth and student volunteering across the county. Through collaboration with local leaders and community networks, you will drive sustainable growth in youth participation, ensuring that every young person—regardless of background—can find a place within St John.

The programmes and pathways you help shape will have a ripple effect, equipping young people with skills and experiences that last a lifetime, and fostering a sense of community responsibility that can inspire future careers in healthcare, education, and public service.

Ultimately, your impact will be seen in the stronger, more connected communities you help build—where young people are not just participants, but leaders and changemakers.
