Lets Waste Less Volunteers encourage people in their local community to reduce the amount of waste they throw away. We're looking for a skilled journalist or copywriter to write articles about waste reduction and train existing volunteers.
Our volunteers work across Worcestershire to encourage people in their local community to reduce the amount of waste they throw away; this could be via composting, food waste reduction, recycling more, reusing or repairing items or not generating the waste in the first place.
By bringing this message directly to communities we aim to help people on their journey to becoming more sustainable and to take their own small steps to help reduce our environmental impact.
This is funded by Worcestershire County Council and managed by Resource Futures (an independent environmental consultancy, which is part of the B Corp movement).
We're looking for a skilled journalist/copywriter who has a keen interest in waste reduction and the effects it has on climate change. The ideal candidate will be able to create articles that can go out to local publications and online to help deliver our message to Worcestershire residents. We would also ideally like to find someone who would be willing to help train our existing volunteers and offer them opportunities to upskill and write their own articles.
Other activities our volunteers get involved with include:
Whilst we wouldn't expect involvement in any of these other areas you would be welcome to participate in any of the volunteering activities that you wish to.
You will have several years experience in journalism and/or copywriting, you will be used to writing for a range of levels of publication. Our articles can go out to anything from small local newsletters to county wide newspapers and magazines. We also aim to publish more articles online through various sources.
We are ideally looking for someone with an interest in waste reduction and climate change, we will provide basic training on the necessary facts and figures but an existing knowledge is highly beneficial. We are hoping to find someone enigmatic and engaging with a lively enthusiasm for writing about our project.
The ideal candidate will have experience of working in the community and with people from a range of different demographics. Our aim is to make waste reduction more accessible to all. This may include talking to children, the elderly, both affluent and disadvantaged areas and everyone in between.
Above all our volunteers care about the environment and their communities, they are welcoming and friendly to all and wish to help change the conversation on waste in our society.
You will help us to educate communities on the impact of waste on the environment, you will bring the journalism skills we need to help expand the project and reach more people. With your help we can have a stronger voice in Worcestershire.
