About the Organisation

Urban Cure is a community-focused, heritage-led regeneration organisation based in Southend-on-Sea, Essex. We are dedicated to preserving cultural heritage, promoting community engagement, and supporting educational initiatives. As part of our commitment to celebrating diverse cultures and histories, we are seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Content Curator to lead our Black History Month programme

Role Overview

The Content Curator for Black History Month will be responsible for developing and managing engaging content that highlights and celebrates the achievements, contributions and history of Black individuals and communities. The role involves creating educational and inspiring materials and collaborating with various stakeholders to ensure a meaningful and impactful Black History Month.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Research and create diverse and accurate content related to Black history, culture and contributions.
  • Develop educational materials, including articles, social media posts, newsletters, and multimedia content.
  • Curate and organise historical documents and resources for exhibitions and displays
  • Collaborate with speakers, artists to ensure high-quality and relevant programming.
  • Develop ways to engage with the community, schools etc to promote BHM activities.
  • Highlight partnerships with local businesses, cultural institutions, and educational organisations.
  • Gather feedback from participants to assess the impact and success of the programme.
  • Develop a marketing brief to promote BHM events and content.
  • Utilise social media, newsletters and other channels to reach a wide audience.
  • Create promotional materials, including flyers, posters and online content.
  • Create a monitoring and evaluating process that show the effectiveness of Black History Month activities and the launch of Urban Cure Heritage Craft School.
  • Prepare reports and summaries on the outcomes and impact of the programme.
  • Provide recommendations for future initiatives based on feedback and evaluation.

What are we looking for?

Skills and Experience

  • Degree or equivalent in History, Cultural Studies, Education, Media Studies, or a related field (preferred but not essential).
  • Experience in content creation.
  • Experience with Black history and cultural studies, or a strong interest in these areas
  • Experience working with diverse communities and organisations.
  • Excellent research, writing, and communication skills.
  • Strong organisational abilities.
  • Strong digital content creation tools and social media platforms.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Creative, proactive, and able to handle multiple tasks effectively.
