One-to-one mentoring sessions to be delivered by volunteers to inspire young people in education to make positive choices for their futures by helping them develop skills.
Through mentoring we focus on the following five core areas: self-awareness; emotional literacy; relationship and communication skills; responsible decision-making; emotional resilience.
All our volunteers get to complete our high level AQA Accredited Wholistic Mentoring training to enable them to help young people in the community and to make a direct impact on their lives.
Through this training our aim is for our mentors to become able to effectively assess young people's decision making processes and help identify patterns of negative behaviour, in an effort to endorse the ethos of Spark2Life and positively impact young people’s lives. In turn these personal changes will contribute to the reduction of serious youth crime.
We are looking for reliable people who have experience working with children or young people. They need to have good communication skills and consider themselves to be a good role model. It is essential that there is also a love for young people and a desire to have a positive impact on their lives. Although we provide training, it is desired for our volunteers to have an eagerness to learn.
Although main point of contact of volunteers will be the Spark2life Community Coordinator, some conversations will need to happen between school and mentor (volunteer), for example relating to advocating for young people or safeguarding concerns. Volunteers are required to have the ability to have these conversations in a confident manner.
Our aim is to prevent young people from ever entering the criminal justice system. By building young people's self esteem while encouraging them to make positive life choices, we believe this to be possible.
