This small international development charity working in Uganda is looking for a communications professional to expand its supporter/donor base and improve supporter/donor engagement.

What will you be doing?

Tasks

The communications volunteer will: 

  • Write and coordinate our external communications. This includes KICS’ regular newsletters, stories and general information on our website, and campaign and research pieces. You will work alongside trustees who are marketing and communications professionals.
  • Work closely with our UK director (also a volunteer) and Uganda colleagues to identify stories and case studies to publish.
  • Work with UK director on fundraising and social media to create high quality written content for campaigns and promotional materials.
  • Contribute to fundraising efforts by producing copy for general appeals, individual and group emails and our website.
  • Identify ways of increasing our small supporter list and using tools above, to convert them to donors.

  • Excellent writing, communication and digital skills
  • Experience in writing informative, persuasive or neutral content depending on the purpose of and audience for the communication
  • Self-motivation and the ability to work independently
  • Research skills necessary to support various fundraising projects
  • Knowledge and experience of marketing and communications
  • Experience in using Microsoft suite for analysis and creating presentations; some experience of MailChimp would also be useful

What difference will you make?

By contributing to the increased supporter base and income of the charity, we can a) empower poor women through improved literacy, business and agricultural training and microloans to increase their household incomes and give them a voice in their families and communities, and b) give access to school to more children and create a better educational environment to improve the educational outcomes of very poor children and therefore their life prospects.
