We are seeking to recruit new trustees to strengthen our connection to the community, broaden our outlook and ensure succession planning.

While experience such as management, leadership, accounting marketing etc would be an advantage. We are looking for people with commitment who can think independently and speak their mind while also working as a team. Of particular benefit would be knowledge/experience related to the services we provide and knowledge and connections in the Derby city community. Previous experience as a trustee or board member is not essential.

There are 12 trustee’s meetings a year which take place in our premises at Leopold Street in Derby, usually in the evening. Preparation for and attendance at the trustees’ meetings is the minimum requirement for trustees they are, however, encouraged to contribute through subcommittees and attendance when available at fundraising events

What are we looking for?

What difference will you make?

As part of our board you will play a key role in in developing and implementing our future strategy. Life for vulnerable families and children in the most deprived area of Derby has become more difficult in the aftermath of the Covid pandemic and the present economic conditions. In addition to this, social services are also under increasing pressure and are, as a consequence raising the threshold for their intervention. This means that our staff are having to up their game and their skills to deal with more challenging child and family situations. In responding to this we have been developing our services, for example; we have recently introduced a 'Reach for Wellbeing" programme to support the mental health of parents with young children; And we are developing a programme to support parents with children with autistic traits. Our mentoring service has introduced group mentoring in order to cope with demand and along with this is introducing access to diversionary activities such as rock climbing and five a side football. You will also play a vital roll in overseeing the effective development and implementation of these and other services.

We are very proud to say the charity was honoured in 2020 with The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.

This year we celebrate 50 years of supporting children and families in Derby.
