Welcome to Reach Volunteering. We are a community and registered charity that connects people, skills and good causes.

Maxability is seeking two new Trustees to strengthen its Board and help to grow its unique, inclusive arts charity for the future.

What will you be doing?

Maxability is a small but growing charitable organization with ambitious plans for future expansion of its services. We provide a unique service and support space for disabled people to attend pottery classes in Barnet. We are an inclusive, creative place, where disabled and non-disabled people come to explore their talents, build connections and acquire valuable life skills. We pride ourselves in the excellent service we deliver and the caring environment we provide for all our beneficiaries.

Maxability is a registered charity which operates in Barnet, London. We have a formidable and committed board of trustees and wish to grow this to reflect the people we serve and support.

To help us grow we need experienced members of the public to join our Board.

We are particularly keen to recruit members of the local community in North London or from the sectors of disability, inclusion, arts and culture and those from a global majority background.

Our trustees meet 4 - 6 times per year and bring their skills to advocate, connect and support our charity's core mission to help disabled and disadvantaged people discover their innate abilities. At Maxability we bring the healing properties of clay and the process of pottery making to a diverse community of people who need it most.

What are we looking for?

We are seeking the following for the role of Trustee:

(Not all may be relevant to you, however, we want to recruit trustees who are able to deepen our impact and contribute to gaps in the charity’s current representation and / or deliver)

  • Lived experience of disability or experience of caring for a person with a disability.
  • Candidates who are from a global majority background
  • Expertise in Marketing, PR or Event Management.
  • Expertise in Social Media
  • Knowledge of diversity, access and inclusion
  • Knowledge of cultural development
  • Knowledge of local priorities and the Borough of Barnet / or of a London Borough’s local authority aims and objectives
  • Knowledge of creative arts and community arts.

What difference will you make?

Maxability offers a range of weekly classes in its fully equipped ceramics studio in Northwest London, run by experienced ceramics tutors, for disabled people, including those with mental health issues, older people, and people on low incomes.

As a trustee, you will:

  • Contribute to Maxability’s vital and inspiring work, and play a crucial role in supporting disabled people.
  • Gain an insight into the workings of a thriving creative arts charity and a ceramics studio.
  • Develop leadership, planning and interpersonal skills.
  • Work with dedicated and experienced trustees and staff, including artists and educators.
