Emmaus Bradford seeks to address hardship by providing accommodation and work for the homeless, as well as training and support. We now need a volunteer to set up and manage a new pop-up shop in Bradford City Centre.

What will you be doing?

We are urgently looking for a volunteer who can set up and manage a new pop-up shop in the centre of Bradford. The volunteer reports to the Chair of Trustees and works closely with the Emmaus Bradford Charity Superstore on Cross Lane. The role involves:

  • Supervising property improvements 
  • Designing layout and displays
  • Organising the advertising collateral and signage
  • Recruiting and managing other volunteers to help run the shop
  • Managing the retail activities on a day to day basis
  • Taking responsibility for the financial aspects of the business, including handling the money and balancing the till at the end of the day
  • Setting and achieving budgets
  • Thinking through issues such as health and safety, social distancing requirements
  • Liaising with the Emmaus Bradford Superstore on Cross Lane
  • Deciding on the items for sale in the pop-up shop and signposting people to Cross Lane for other items. 
  • Accepting shop deliveries and managing stock rotation
  • Outstanding customer service 
  • Managing online sales


We would love a volunteer who can:

  • Engage with the Emmaus mission 
  • Help us to achieve our main objective of securing accommodation for the homeless
  • Use their skills to help us develop our social enterprise

What are we looking for?

We are looking for a volunteer who:

  • Has retail management/ business development experience
  • Has the ability to quickly understand the needs of/challenges faced by our organisation
  • Has real enthusiasm to support the Emmaus business model
  • Has creative ideas to support Emmaus Bradford business development
  • Can create a real “wow’ factor for our retail outlets
  • Can help us improve the look and feel of Bradford City Centre 

What difference will you make?

With your help we will be able to increase revenues to support the implementation of the Emmaus business model of providing accommodation and work for the homeless. Additionally there is the opportunity to help upgrade a shopping street in a central location of Bradford. The Covid-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on the economy and the charity shop will be able to provide goods at a low price to the needy.
