Exciting opportunity to apply administrative skills to help a unique & innovative charity by taking on a role that has a blend of the routine along with the unexpected!

What will you be doing?

The role's key responsibilities/tasks will be predominantly administrative focussing on the maintenance and streamlining of data, record keeping and governance processes and with exposure to other interesting aspects/developments.  You will be supporting the UK team, liaising with the international team and responding to internal and external stakeholder enquiries.

APOPO UK is a registered charity run by a team of volunteers.  APOPO UK’s primary aim is to enable assistance through animal scent detection and provide support to disadvantaged communities identified through collaboration and partnerships, working closely with experienced organisations who implement global projects.  Moving forward we plan to help address social challenges and raise awareness of the issues faced in identified areas of operation.  An initial focus will be on land mine detection and TB detection, working to support pioneering innovation, and acting as the official UK partner of  APOPO vzw – a credible and well established international non profit deploying teams and HeroRATs and HeroDOGs to help detect landmines and previously missed cases of TB along with other globally focussed projects.  The UK Board is self directing and autonomous in operation.   We have a partnership agreement with APOPO vzw and a compelling case for support.

What are we looking for?

  • Minimum 5 years’ PA or office management experience in a charity or non-profit environment
  • Some experience of fundraising processes/working with non profit Boards.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent organisational skills.
  • Proactive self-starter with ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Great interpersonal skills
  • Time available to dedicate to this role

What difference will you make?

You will be supporting the UK operation and can shape this role as your own.  With fully functioning and effective processes already in place you will be able to build knowledge and skills and draw on your own expertise and experience to maintain and develop these further as well as supporting the small and friendly team.  You will have the opportunity to line manage volunteers, develop interest in and experience of animal scent detection techniques as well as deepen your knowledge of governance and charity administrative and fundraising processes.  By volunteering in this role you will ensure that the organisation remains efficient, effective and compliant, streamlining resourcing to maximise funds that will help support projects that are saving lives around the world.  You will have interaction with an impressive global team and opportunity to understand the working of an international charity.

Before you apply

Please apply with CV and example of experience and with a cover note as to what attracts you to this role.  Please do not apply unless you have the time to dedicate to this role during the working week.  An informal call in advance of the application is possible.
