HBCMF runs a recital series each year that offers a platform to some of the UK’s most talented young professionals and brings the highest quality music-making to our area. Alongside this we have a variety of educational projects for local students.
We were founded in 2021 with support from Arts Council England to kickstart the area’s post-pandemic artistic revival. Each year we run a recital series which brings the highest quality music-making to the local area and offers a platform to some of the UK’s most talented young professional musicians.
Committed to pushing boundaries, our concerts demonstrate “seriously thoughtful” (Michael White) programming with a particular focus on female composers. We have presented works from Grace Williams and Johanna Müller-Hermann through to Kaija Saariaho and Helen Grime.
With support from the Cavatina Trust we provide free tickets for under-25s, and as well as the concert series we have explored a range of educational activities with masterclasses and a Student Ambassador Scheme, alongside charitable concerts.
Joshua Ballance, the Festival’s Artistic Director, says the positions offer “a fantastic opportunity to really make a difference to a young and fast-growing organisation which is bringing exciting developments to High Barnet, for audiences, musicians, students and the town itself”.
We are specifically looking for someone with fundraising experience to complement the makeup of our board of trustees, whether in trusts and foundations, or individual giving.
Ideally, you will have a strong interest in music, and you need to be good at working in a team and have an enthusiastic and self-motivated attitude.
You do not need to have been a trustee previously, and living in High Barnet is not necessary, though a willingness to attend meetings and concerts in the area is required.
You will be one of five trustees overseeing the operations of the Festival. Alongside more specialist fundraising advice you will be able to offer, you will be involved in the general strategic planning of the Festival. As a young and fast-growing organisation, there is plenty of scope to have a major positive impact on the success of the Festival.
In previous years we have successfully attracted support from Arts Council England and a number of private trusts, but we are currently working to improve and expand our network of personal giving. Potential trustees with specialism in either domain of fundraising are welcome to apply.
The role typically takes a couple of hours per month, although this is spread unevenly across the year. This is a voluntary position.
