Hebden Bridge Arts has always been about people – artists, neighbours, dreamers, and doers coming together to create something truly special.
Now, we’re looking for a new Chair of Trustees to help lead us into an exciting new chapter.For nearly 30 years, we’ve been proud to be part of Calderdale’s vibrant creative community, co-creating projects that celebrate who we are and where we live. From the magic of The Man Who Planted Trees during Calderdale’s Year of Culture, to the community-rooted Engaging Neighbourhoods programme, we’ve seen first-hand how art can connect, inspire, and transform.
As we plan for a bold and sustainable future in a changing arts landscape, we’re inviting someone passionate, thoughtful, and full of ideas to join us as Chair. It’s a voluntary role (about two days a month), and it’s a chance to make a real and lasting difference to creativity and culture in Calderdale.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
Leadership experience at a strategic level, including chairing meetings and guiding organisational development.
Strong understanding of charity governance and the legal duties of trustees.
Experience of financial oversight and budget management.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders.
Commitment to inclusivity, diversity, and accessibility in the arts.
Passion for community-led arts and belief in their transformative potential UK based and willing to undergo a DBS security check and the enthusiasm and time to commit to the role.
Our ambitious 2024 project, "The Man Who Planted Trees," was a multi-faceted community arts programme delivered as part of Calderdale's Year of Culture. This ambitious project included: A brand new theatrical production exploring environmental themes 38 creative workshops and guided nature walks with 500 participants Three art exhibitions featuring 76 local artists, attracting 8,650 visitors Community creative days in Todmorden and Rastrick An educational film and resource pack reaching up to 10,000 primary school pupils The project resonated deeply with participants, with 79% reporting feeling more connected to nature and 77% experiencing increased creative confidence.
ENGAGING DIVERSE COMMUNITIES Our "Engaging Neighbourhoods" programme reaches nine community groups across Calderdale, working with refugees, young people, isolated adults, and families. Through mentorship and artistic experiences, we've helped participants discover their creative potential and build meaningful connections.
