Lord Crewe's Charity is a modern, forward-thinking and relevant charity seeking to address contemporary needs in an impactful way whilst mindful of its rich 300-year history. 

What will you be doing?

The Chair of Trustees is responsible for leading the development of clear strategies for the Charity and ensuring they are heeded in decision making; creating the environment for a high performing cohesive Board, ensuring that all voices are equally heard and collaborative decisions made; and ensuring that the purpose and values of the Charity are reflected in its Grants Policy as well as the Investment Policy Statement and the management of the property portfolio. The Charity is accustomed to its Trustees using humour, humility, commitment, clarity, intelligence, confidence, focus and calm and working in ways that are empowering, friendly, reflect the 'big picture', conflict defusing, collaborative, reflective and flexible.

What are we looking for?

  • Visionary strategic leadership in the third sector
  • Collective and cohesive steering of board decision making
  • Development and implementation of grant-giving policy, informed by an appropriate financial strategy
  • Assessment and Evaluation of Grant Programmes
  • Awareness of charitable impact through awards of grants
  • Development and adherence to charities’ values, ethos and culture
  • Familiarity with the Charity Governance Code

What difference will you make?

As Chair of Trustees you will lead the Board in considering the Charity's financial and other strategies, which can inform continuing development of the Grants Policy. We hope to recruit a candidate with visionary strategic leadership experience in the third sector, capable of collective and cohesive steering of board decision making. Skills and experience in the assessment and evaluation of grant programmes would be particularly welcome. This vital role provides the opportunity for development and adherence to the Charity's values, ethos and culture.
