Musical Connections is looking for a new Chair of the Board of Trustees who is passionate, motivated, and can commit the time to help drive the charity’s continued growth and success.

What will you be doing?

At Musical Connections, we are looking for a new Chair of Trustees to lead our Board of Trustees and to help develop the charity’s future.

About Musical Connections

We are a small, York-based charity, working to enable older, isolated and vulnerable people to lead happier, healthier lives through participation in professionally-led music groups and choirs. We also run an extensive programme of intergenerational events and activities, which bring together beneficiaries and local school children and students.

Our charitable objectives are:

  • To advance the wellbeing of vulnerable and socially isolated older people
  • To relieve isolation and social exclusion amongst vulnerable people
  • To provide opportunities for vulnerable and socially isolated people to learn, achieve and contribute to the work of the charity
  • To share learning and skills

Specifically, we aim for beneficiaries to:

  • Be healthier, happier, more confident and more active
  • Strengthen and increase connections with other people and their wider community

What are we looking for?

Essential

  • Be passionate about how music can be used to benefit people’s lives (but not necessarily be working in the music sector)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • An ability to contribute effectively as a Chair/Board member
  • Strategic leadership and management expertise which will benefit the future of Musical Connections
  • Good, independent judgement, political impartiality and the ability to think creatively in the context of the organisation and external environment
  • An understanding of current appropriate safeguarding requirements
  • Ability to act in confidence as required
  • The ability to balance tact and diplomacy with a willingness to challenge and constructively criticise
  • Friendly, with a sense of humour
  • A DBS (MC will arrange and pay for this)

Ideally

  • Knowledge of charity governance or previous experience working with, or as part of, a Board of Trustees
  • Financial management expertise or charity fundraising experience
  • Strong personal and professional networks and a willingness to utilise them to benefit Musical Connections

What difference will you make?

The new Chair of Trustees will be instrumental in driving forward the charity's mission and ensuring that it continues to make a meaningful difference in the lives of older, isolated, and vulnerable people. Their leadership will not only enhance the charity's effectiveness and reach but also inspire others to join and support this vital cause, ultimately creating a stronger, more connected community where people of all ages can thrive.
