Ups and Downs South West are looking for a Chair of Trustees to work with their established board to deliver their new strategy and take the organisation to the next level and grow their impact across the South West.

What will you be doing?

As a charity we work to support and empower children and young people, parents, families and professionals dealing with the health, education and social needs of children and young people who have Down Syndrome.

One of the largest regional charities of its kind, we cover Somerset, Bristol, Devon, Dorset, North Somerset and Wiltshire. Our services include; family support, schools training, Post-16 advice and guidance, social events and youth groups.

Last year we created an exciting new strategy, and appointed a new board of talented professionals across operations, education, service delivery and fundraising. We are now looking for a new chair to work with us in bringing the vision to life and achieve our mission to support every child and young person with Down Syndrome in the SouthWest to ensure they enjoy a secure, informed environment that meets their emotional, social and educational needs.

What are we looking for?

Your experience might come from a host of backgrounds; education, charity, social care or commercial. What's important to us in the role of a Chair is that you have;

  • a passion for getting the most out of your board
  • a focus on the charitable objectives and achieving these
  • you act as a critical friend to the organisations director

Chair experience is desirable, but not essential.

What difference will you make?

The Chair of Trustees is a key role within the organisation. Your leadership will ensure we maintain momentum and focus with our plans to evolve, iterate and grow our services. In turn, this has a direct impact on our beneficiaries. Bringing more of the services and support that they need.

Before you apply

Please apply through Reach in the first instance. There's no formal application form at this stage, we would just like to hear a little bit about why you are interested in the role and what expertise you think you can bring to the group.
