Home-Start Medway are an award winning Charity that have been supporting families with young child, living in the Medway area, for the last 35 years. We offer support via a range of unique services for families with children across Medway.

Experience:

  • Experience of operating at a senior strategic leadership level within an organisation
  • Successful track record of achievement through their career
  • Experience of charity governance and working with or as part of a Board of Trustees
  • Significant experience of chairing meetings and events

Qualities:

  • Demonstrate a strong and visible passion and commitment to the charity, its strategic objectives and cause
  • Exhibit strong inter-personal and relationship building abilities
  • Demonstrate tact and diplomacy, with the ability to listen and engage effectively
  • Strong networking capabilities that can be utilised for the benefit of the charity
  • Ability to foster and promote a collaborative team environment
  • Ability to commit time to conduct the role well.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong leadership skills, ability to motivate staff and volunteers and bring people together
  • Financial management expertise and a broad understanding of charity finance issues
  • Good understanding of charity governance issues
  • Ability to make good use of technology to drive effectiveness

As the Chair of Home Start Medway, the role carries significant responsibility and influence over the organisation's direction and effectiveness. The Chair plays a pivotal role in guiding the Board of Trustees and steering the charity towards achieving its mission and objectives.

Leadership and Governance: The Chair provides strong and effective leadership to the Board of Trustees, ensuring that they operate cohesively and collaboratively towards shared goals. They lead board meetings, set agendas, and facilitate discussions to ensure that decisions are made in the best interests of the charity and its beneficiaries. 

Strategic Direction: The Chair is instrumental in shaping the strategic direction of the charity, working closely with trustees, senior management, and stakeholders to define long-term goals and priorities. 

External Representation: The Chair serves as the public face and ambassador of Home Start Medway, representing the charity to external stakeholders, including donors, funders, partners, and the wider community. 

Support and Development: The Chair provides support and guidance to the Board of Trustees, helping to build a diverse and skilled team of trustees who are equipped to fulfill their roles effectively. 

In summary, the Chair plays a pivotal role in driving the leadership, governance, and strategic direction of Home Start Medway, ensuring that the charity operates effectively, ethically, and impactfully in pursuit of its mission to support families and children in need.
