Remap is a charity that helps  people of all ages with disabilities to live more independent lives. Our network of skilled volunteers design and custom-make disability equipment free of charge.

What will you be doing?

We help to improve quality of life and increase independence for  people of all ages, providing solutions to everyday problems when there is nothing commercially available. We do this  for each individual because everyone’s needs are different. Our network of skilled volunteers respond to thousands of requests for our help every year and we provide our service free of charge.

We currently have a vacancy for a new chair to lead our group of volunteer engineers and increase our visibility to prospective clients and health professionals in Berkshire through personal contact and publicity. This will increase the number of referrals that are received and in so doing allow us to improve the daily lives and independence of more of those in Berkshire with disabilities.

You will be assisted by the Berkshire group’s publicity officer, secretary, treasurer, fundraiser and case officer. This is an executive position, where you will be active in the work done by the group; we are not just looking for a figurehead but for someone who will enthusiastically contribute to the group and our clients.

What are we looking for?

This would suit someone who…

  • Has time to spare (generally between half a day and one day per week)
  • Is a good communicator, enjoys dealing with organisations and individuals, and would be comfortable with speaking in public
  • Is retired or part-retired with time to spare on a long-term basis and would like a sense of purpose
  • Has a professional background with managerial experience and/or previous charity experience e.g. trustee
  • Has basic computer and presentation skills and the ability to travel within the local area (any out of pocket expenses will be paid)
  • Has a current interest or understanding of disability but this isn’t essential as long as you are enthusiastic about the work Remap does

What difference will you make?

You will work with the local, established and successful team to continue to provide our service to those people who need it in and around Berkshire, and build relationships with health service providers, clients and businesses as well as oversee the branch meetings, manage the volunteers' workload and comply with charity governance etc.
