Welcome to Reach Volunteering. We are a community and registered charity that connects people, skills and good causes.

To apply for this role, and any other on our platform, you need to be based in the UK, have at least three years of experience using the skills you wish to volunteer in a professional capacity or have lived experience (for trustee roles). Read more about our criteria.

Due to the retirement of our current Chair, we are seeking an inspirational leader to Chair our Board of Trustees

What will you be doing?

The Mary How Trust provides in-depth health checks, on a self-referral basis, to asymptomatic clients, which include medical and non-invasive tests that give a clearer picture of health and wellbeing. Our health screening focuses on preventative health; informing of potential issues and reinforcing good behaviours to support health and wellbeing. The aim is to allow our clients to understand their bodies better and take control of their health. Whilst our health screening is not a diagnostic process, we will refer clients to their GP should any of the results show an abnormality. We believe we are the only independent health screening organisation to operate in the way we do - instead of a fixed fee, we request a donation that's based on the person’s ability to pay, making us accessible to all those in the community.

We are growing, ambitious and committed, looking to grow and develop our impact. This year we will embark on a new strategy which will define our work for the next five years. Our new Chair will lead our highly committed board that has a wide range of experience and expertise, working in partnership to support and hold to account, challenging the status quo and being our ambassador.

As our new Chair, you will bring experience of strong governance, vision, strategic leadership, and how to grow organisations. Together with the Board of Trustees and the Chief Executive you will  be committed to developing our mission and supporting us as we embark on our new 5-year strategy. Most importantly, our new Chair will be a key advocate for The Mary How Trust’s strategy and values and passionate about empowering and communicating the fact that health screening saves lives.

Our board meets bi-monthly, and we have an annual strategy away day. We expect the time commitment to be between 7 and 10 hours a month, this is inclusive of reading board papers, preparation for board meetings, collaborating with our Chief Executive, liaising with our Board members and attending events throughout the year.

What are we looking for?

We are seeing a Trustee who brings:

  • Effective leadership skills and strong governance knowledge, ideally with Board experience.
  • A collaborative approach with the Board of Trustees and Chief Executive to establish a clear vision, mission, and strategic direction for the charity, with a focus on achieving them.
  • The ability to act as an ambassador and a public face of the charity in collaboration with the CEO and other members of the Board.

 Desirable but not essential:

  •  Knowledge of the Charity and/or Health Care sectors.

What difference will you make?

Why Join Us?

By becoming our Chair of Trustees, you’ll:

  • Make a tangible difference to people’s lives.
  • Help shape the future of a respected charity.
  • Work alongside a passionate and dedicated team.

Join us and be part of our journey of growth and development, to ensure the sustainability of a charity that changes lives every day!
