What will you be doing?

YMCA Bellshill & Mossend is seeking a Chair for our board of trustees during a pivotal period of growth and innovation. The new Chair will be instrumental in leading our strategic planning and governance, ensuring that our operations and initiatives align closely with our SHINE values—Safe, Honest, Inspired, Non-judgemental, Environment. In this vital role, the Chair will not only oversee the strategic direction of our organisation but also foster a culture of sustainable growth and community engagement.

Key responsibilities include guiding the board in setting and achieving strategic goals, enhancing our services, and strengthening our community impact. The Chair will also play a crucial role in stakeholder engagement, representing the charity at external events and in discussions with potential partners and funders. We are seeking a visionary leader with a robust commitment to our values, strategic insight, and a strong passion for making a significant impact in the community. This role offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of our organisation and make a lasting difference in the lives of those we serve.

What are we looking for?

The ideal candidate for the Chair of YMCA Bellshill & Mossend should possess a unique blend of skills, experience, and personal qualities that align with our organisational goals and values.

Skills and Experience:

  1. Strategic Leadership: Demonstrated experience in leading organisations through periods of change or growth, with the ability to craft and implement long-term strategic plans.
  2. Governance and Compliance: A strong understanding of governance principles, particularly within the third sector, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
  3. Financial Acumen: Capability to oversee financial strategies and budgets, ensuring the organisation's resources are used effectively and sustainably.
  4. Stakeholder Engagement: Proven track record of building and maintaining strong relationships with a range of stakeholders including community members, partners, and funders, with specific experience in the third sector.

Qualities:

  1. Commitment to Values: A deep commitment to YMCA Bellshill & Mossend’s SHINE values, with a personal ethos that reflects these principles.
  2. Inspirational Leadership: The ability to inspire and motivate others, fostering a culture of collaboration and mutual respect within the board and the broader organisation.
  3. Adaptability and Resilience: Skills in adapting to changing environments and challenges, maintaining a clear focus on the organisation's objectives amidst external pressures.
  4. Inclusive Mindset: A strong advocate for diversity and inclusion, ensuring that the board reflects the community it serves and that decisions consider diverse perspectives.

The Chair should be someone who not only meets these criteria but also brings a passion for community service, an eagerness to drive positive change, and the foresight to see the potential for impact in every decision. This role is not just about meeting objectives but about leading with integrity, vision, and a  sense of responsibility towards the community YMCA Bellshill & Mossend serves, enhanced by their knowledge and experience in the third sector.

What difference will you make?

As the Chair of YMCA Bellshill & Mossend, the individual will have a profound impact on both the direction and the vitality of our organisation. By steering our strategic initiatives, the Chair will ensure that we continue to adapt and respond effectively to the needs of our community, particularly as these needs evolve. This leadership role is crucial in setting the tone for how our organisation operates and interacts within the community, directly influencing our capacity to offer supportive, inclusive, and effective services.

The Chair's influence will extend beyond internal governance, impacting the broader Bellshill community through enhanced service provision and community engagement initiatives. By leading the board in strategic decision-making and fostering key partnerships, the Chair will help to expand our reach and deepen our impact, ensuring that more children, young people, and families have access to the resources and support they need to thrive.

Furthermore, the Chair will play a pivotal role in upholding and promoting our core values of creating a safe, honest, inspired, non-judgemental, and adaptive environment. This will not only reinforce our organisational culture but also enhance our reputation and trust within the community, leading to greater effectiveness and sustainability.
