What will you be doing?

AFFCAD UK is a small, friendly and committed organisation supporting charitable activities in Uganda. We are looking to recruit an experienced and dynamic Chair of Trustees to support and implement our plans for growth.

We are currently looking for a committed and passionate Chair of Trustees that can offer us support and direction as we face a period of expansion.

Our Chair would need to be able to lead our Board of Trustees; guide, support and advise our volunteers as well as provide guidance on how best to manage these changes.

We are looking for truly committed volunteers - the organisation is small and run solely by dedicated volunteers.

The main responsibilities of the Chair would be:

  • Chair monthly meetings of our Board of Trustees (and ad-hoc meetings, as required)
  • Offer guidance and advice to our team of volunteers, to help achieve AFFCAD UK's strategic priorities
  • Ensure decisions of the Board are implemented
  • to attend 4 meetings per month, two during lunch time with our team in Uganda and two in the evening with the U.K. team, all Mon to Thursday.
  • to be flexible and to support the charity with additional projects as and when required.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for an individual with at least three years previous Trustee experience, and ideally with experience working in/managing a similar organisation to AFFCAD UK. AFFCAD UK is volunteer-run, so we are looking for an engaged and involved Chair who is willing to support our small team with advice, suggestions and encouragement.

We would be interested in speaking to people with experience in:

  • NGO Management
  • International Development and East Africa
  • Governance
  • Fundraising
  • Volunteer Management

We will be happy to consider anyone that has skills that may be relevant to our charity so please don't hesitate to apply if you are interested in working with us.

What difference will you make?

AFFCAD UK are at an exciting stage of growth. In order to best support AFFCAD Uganda and the programmes we deliver to the community in Bwaise, we are strengthening our team in the UK by increasing recruitment, conducting a gaps analysis and further formalising our structure.

You will be joining a small team of motivated individuals who share a common goal of taking AFFCAD UK a step further, refocusing on raising awareness and increasing funding for the people/community in Bwaise who rely on our support. In doing so we are able to support grassroots projects (focused on youth empowerment, education and health) to uplift and enrich the lives of Ugandans living in Bwaise.
