This is a flexible vounteering role that can be worked around the hours you can give to support our charity.

This is an exciting opportuntiy to pass on your Health and Safety/ Building maintenance experience and make a positive difference to young people in the local community.  

What will you be doing?

Our Sea Cadet Unit provides training for many young people, delivered by adult volunteers. The upkeep and maintenance of our building is essential to ensure it is always a safe environment for our cadets, volunteers, parents and visitors.

The tasks of this fulfilling role include but are not restricted to the following:

  • To act as the committee member with specific responsibility for informing trustees on health and safety matters relating to the building and facilities.
  • To assist with the implementation of good health and safety practices.
  • To manage risk assessments and ensure all H&S policies and checks are completed and upheld
  • To report any incidents or potential H&S issues to the Unit Management Team
  • Manage and/or undertake the routine maintenance tasks of the Unit
  • Monitor and report any larger work or repairs needed to the Unit Management Team (UMT)
  • Carry out smaller maintenance tasks where appropriate

What are we looking for?

Do you have three years or more, professional experience in positions with skills or knowledge such as: 

  • Health and Safety Policy and Practice
  • Creating and implementing risk assessments
  • Building / facilities management
  • Building / facilities maintenance 

Are you a: 

  • A good communicator 
  • Work effectively with a team 
  • Motivate and encourage others

As our Building facilities / H&S Co-ordinator, you will be an integral member of our volunteer team, ensuring our building is safe and ready to deliver the sea cadet experience to local young people.

So, we offer a flexible approach, recognising that everyone has skills to offer and that volunteering needs to fit around peoples' busy lives - so if a desire to support local young people is there, please contact us and we will arrange for a unit visit. 

You may be required to undertake mandatory induction training and DBS (paid for by the Sea Cadets).
