An opportunity to help run the world’s largest organisation dedicated to the study and conservation of dragonflies, damselflies and their wetland habitats.

What will you be doing?

The British Dragonfly is seeking to recruit two trustees with an interest in the natural world to help support our small staff team and a network of committed volunteers to deliver a wide range of conservation projects and activities across the UK.

The roles will include:

  • Participating in meetings and contribute to the Board of Trustees in their role of setting the strategy and policies of the organisation
  • Representing the organisation at appropriate events, meetings or functions
  • Acting as a spokesperson for the organisation where appropriate
  • Maintaining careful oversight of any risk to reputation and/or financial standing of the organisation
  • Attending and joining other committees or working groups when appropriate
  • For one role we are looking for a trustee to oversee our activities in Scotland
  • For one role we are seeking a volunteer with experience of publicity and marketing

What are we looking for?

  • Senior management experience
  • Prior experience of committee/trustee work
  • Knowledge of and interest in conservation. For one role we are particularly looking for a person with a knowledge of, or interest in, nature conservation in Scotland
  • A wider involvement with the voluntary sector

What difference will you make?

As a Trustee of the British Dragonfly Society you will contribute to the effective delivery of good governance through active participation in Board discussions and decision making. You will play a key role in the leadership, strategic and operational management of the organisation. It is critical that the role holder is aware of their responsibilities, and is willing, able, and committed, to fulfilling them. Because we have a small staff team, Trustees often take on additional tasks to support staff in the delivery of work, in the case of the  ‘Scottish’ vacancy this will involve maintaining regular contact with our two Scottish officers.
