Reclaiming Narratives about Black history and presence

What will you be doing?

We are black history...and we are keen to make difference and help educate about the rich contribution of black people to Britiain. But we cannot do it alone. We want to identify and support Black History champions and organisations across the UK. We are a tiny team and need help securing funding. We have the ideas but lack capability when it comes to grants and bids

Responsibilities

Study and understand the history, structure, objectives, programs and financial needs of the organisation.
Research grant opportunities from government and non-government agencies.
Draft grant proposals and supporting documents based on the funding requirements of the organisation.
Submit proposals to grant coordinators for approval.
Respond to internal and external queries on drafted and submitted proposals.
Maintain positive relationships with fund providers and other stakeholders.
Maintain records and submit reports related to grant opportunities.

What are we looking for?

Essential skills and experience

Attention to detail and meticulous proofreading skills
Excellent time management skills and prioritisation of tasks amongst multiple deadlines
Evidence of producing high standard written documents on a consistent and time sensitive basis

Desirable skills and experience

Previous experience in a consultancy, procurement, writing or similar role, with a proven track record of writing high quality bids
Experience or knowledge diversity and inclusion, as well as race equality and black history

Behaviours

Collaborative and thrives in a team setting
Self-motivated and driven, able to work independently and take responsibility for agreed areas of work.
Can demonstrate an emotional intelligence that balances client service, solutions and supporting others

What difference will you make?

By helping us to secure funds, we can help the black community reclaim narratives and correct historical inaccurancies and challenge current stereotypes. We want to work across generations and identify organisations supporting black history classes. Knowing who we are and where we're from, boosts the confidence of communities esepcially younger people. In the words of Bob Marley:If you know your history, then you would know where you coming from, then you wouldn't have to ask me, who the heck do I think I am.
