What will you be doing?

CPRE London branch campaigns for London to be a green, sustainable, and vibrant world city. To guide our activities, we have three main objectives:

  • We promote policies and plans to protect and improve the London Green Belt, Metropolitan Open Land and other green spaces.
  • We campaign for better use of London's built environment and natural resources including the supply of affordable homes, the delivery of good urban design, more sustainable travel (public transport, cycling, walking), less waste and lower carbon emissions.
  • We promote London’s green spaces for people to visit, discover and enjoy, including being more inclusive of the many diverse communities across London

 

In joining the Trustee board you will oversee the following activities:

  • providing guidance and ensuring CPRE London’s compliance with meeting requirements of the Charity Commission
  • undertaking the Board secretarial functions and management oversight of the AGM process
  • contributing to building on our success as a respected organisation to make London a greener and healthier place for people to live, work and enjoy

 

What are we looking for?

Skills / Experience

  • General legal/governance expertise
  • Knowledge of or willingness to become familiar with the requirements of the Charity Commission
  • Excellent organisational and administration skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven strategic thinking ability combined with the ability to get to the heart of an issue
  • Previous NGO experience a plus, but not necessary
  • Ability to network and build effective relationships with other Board Trustees and the Charity’s operational team
  • Previous charity experience a plus, but not necessary
  • An interest in the countryside and environmental issues

At CPRE London we are passionate about promoting the importance and benefits of developing a greener London with links to the surrounding countryside. We are also keen on having a strong trustee board who bring specific skills to contribute to support and guide the charity’s Director and his team and who shares  our  interest in the countryside and environmental issues.

The current CPRE London Honorary Secretary will be stepping down at the AGM in October 2020. Ahead of this, we are seeking to co-opt a Trustee as ‘designate Honorary Secretary’ to allow to manage a handover ahead of the October 2020 AGM.

We are looking for a volunteer with experience in legal or governance roles together with an enthusiasm for the green spaces in London to join the Trustee Board as Honorary Secretary and help us by overseeing the following areas of responsibility

  • Ensuring CPRE London fulfils its charitable objectives and acts in accordance with the Charity Commission’s good governance guidelines
  • Ensuring Trustee Board meetings are effectively organised including liaising with the Chair to plan meetings; receiving agenda items from Board members; circulating agendas and reports; taking and circulating minutes
  • Overseeing the administration of the Annual General Meeting, ensuring procedures are followed and appropriate documents are circulated prior to the meeting
  • Working with the Chair, Honorary Treasurer and Director to prepare the Annual Report for the AGM and the Charities Commission submission Advising on good practice, statutory procedures, and charity governance as required
  • Contributing to the overall strategic direction of the charity.
