We are looking for people passionate about social housing, who can bring challenge, support and fresh thinking to our Board. Ideally, the successful candidates will bring experience in Finance / Treasury Management and ICT / Digital.

What will you be doing?

Each Board member shares the responsibility, jointly with other Board Members, for directing the affairs of the Association, ensuring that it is well managed and achieves its corporate objectives.

Each Board member has a personal responsibility to:

  • Act in the best interests of Bucks Housing
  • Uphold our purpose, objectives and policies
  • Represent and be an ambassador for the organisation
  • Uphold our values, observe high standards of conduct and probity and comply with our Code of Conduct, the NHF Code of Governance, Standing Orders and Financial Regulations
  • Prepare for, and regularly attend, Board meetings and other events as appropriate
  • Participate fully in Board meetings and add value through generating ideas, challenging the status quo, broadening thinking and supporting and promoting innovation 
  • Work with other Board members and the Leadership Team in a constructive manner, ensuring that any delegated authority is clearly expressed
  • Participate in whole Board and individual appraisals, acting upon any suggestions intended to improve the Board’s or the individual member’s effectiveness
  • Declare any relevant interests and avoid conflicts of interest
  • Respect confidentiality of information
  • Ensure their skills are kept up to date and participate in learning and development sessions.

What are we looking for?

Essential criteria

  • a strong commitment to social housing and empathy with the objectives of Bucks Housing
  • a good understanding of the effective governance of charitable or voluntary sector organisations
  • sound judgement and the ability to think strategically and make informed decisions
  • the ability to interpret complex information
  • strong communication skills with the ability to relate to, and communicate effectively with, people at all levels
  • the ability to work effectively as a member of a team
  • a strong role model who promotes high standards of probity, integrity and honesty.

Desirable criteria

  • knowledge and understanding of the issues affecting social housing
  • skills, knowledge or experience in treasury management
  • skills, knowledge or experience in financial management, including financial procedures and auditing
  • knowledge of relevant legislative and regulatory requirements
  • experience of business planning
  • an understanding of the needs of diverse communities, including people who are socially disadvantaged
  • familiarity with Bucks Housing’s operational area.
