What will you be doing?

As a Bid Writer for Make More, you'll play a pivotal role in helping us secure funding and partnerships by crafting clear, persuasive, and impactful proposals. Your primary focus will be on developing written bids that articulate our projects’ value and align with potential funders' priorities. Working closely with our project managers and leadership team, you’ll gather insights, shape project narratives, and ensure each bid resonates with its target audience.

Our main deliverable for this role is the submission of well-researched, tailored bids that demonstrate our mission, goals, and capabilities to prospective funders. These successful bids will allow Make More to expand its reach, enabling us to make a broader impact.

While we have a clear vision for this role, we’re also open to flexibility. If you bring new ideas or alternative approaches to the bidding process, we're excited to hear them. This is a collaborative effort, and we're eager to integrate fresh perspectives that help us grow our funding capabilities and strengthen our mission.

What are we looking for?

To excel as a Bid Writer at Make More, you should bring a combination of essential skills, relevant experience, and personal qualities that align with our mission.

Skills

  • Exceptional Writing Abilities: You can distill complex ideas into clear, persuasive, and engaging proposals aligned with the funders' priorities and values.
  • Research Skills: You’re skilled at researching funding sources, understanding eligibility requirements, and gathering detailed information about prospective funders.
  • Attention to Detail: You understand the importance of precision in proposal writing, from accurately presenting data to ensuring compliance with funder guidelines.
  • Project Management: You can handle multiple projects and deadlines, organizing each bid efficiently to meet submission dates without compromising quality.
  • Analytical Thinking: You can assess project requirements, identify funding needs, and connect our mission with funders’ criteria to craft compelling proposals.

Experience

  • Bid Writing or Grant Writing Experience: Prior experience in writing successful bids, grants, or funding proposals is highly desirable. Familiarity with funding landscapes, procurement processes, especially within non-profits, will be a strong advantage.
  • Understanding of the Non-Profit Sector: Ideally, you have experience or knowledge of the non-profit world, including its unique challenges, opportunities, and funding structures.
  • Collaboration with Diverse Teams: Experience working in cross-functional teams is helpful, as this role involves close collaboration with the directors, and other team members to gather input and insights for each bid.

Qualities

  • Mission-Driven: You believe in the power of non-profits to create positive change and are inspired by our mission.
  • Resilient and Persistent: Bid writing can be a challenging field with varying success rates. You’re able to stay motivated, bounce back from setbacks.
  • Creative Problem-Solving: You’re resourceful and able to think creatively to align our programs with funders' interests.
  • Strong Interpersonal Skills: You’re a team player who communicates effectively, listens well, and builds relationships that enhance collaboration.

What difference will you make?

Your writing will serve as the bridge between our vision and the essential funding that brings it to life.

By winning key funding opportunities, you’ll enable us to launch new programs, reach underrepresented communities, and deepen the quality and breadth of our existing initiatives. Every carefully chosen word, every insight you weave into a bid, helps us paint a compelling picture of the change we aim to create. Your work will highlight the urgency and significance of our mission in ways that resonate with funders and partners, inspiring them to invest in a shared vision of progress.

The impact of your role doesn’t stop at funding; it directly supports a culture of growth and innovation within our organisation. By collaborating closely with our team, you’ll gather insights into the unique needs of our projects, helping us refine our approach, identify new opportunities, and think strategically about our long-term goals.

Simply put, your contributions as a Bid Writer will unlock the potential for us to achieve milestones we couldn’t reach without your expertise. You will be a key player in ensuring our mission isn’t just aspirational but achievable, delivering real benefits and lasting change to those who need it most.
