What will you be doing?

Barnsley Civic is at a pivotal moment in its history, and we are excited to invite experienced and dedicated individuals to join our Board and be an integral part of our journey.

As we embark on an ambitious new Strategic Plan, we are seeking Trustees who share our passion for the arts and believe in the power of creativity to transform lives and communities.

As a Board member, you will play a crucial role in the overall stewardship of the charity and the strategic oversight of our vision, development, and performance. From ensuring legal and financial obligations to supporting the Senior Leadership Team and maximising resources, your contribution will be paramount to our future success.

At Barnsley Civic, our ethos is centred around creating a thriving arts community that fosters equity, diversity, inclusion, and creativity. We are committed to making a positive impact through our arts programs and outreach initiatives, supporting education, and empowering the local community.

We are particularly keen on finding individuals who can bring their leadership and strategic thinking skills to the table. As a Board member, you will also act as a champion for key areas of activity, advocating for Barnsley Civic within the local and regional community.

Furthermore, we value diversity and believe it to be a crucial aspect of our continued success. We encourage applications from people from all of the local communities we serve, both from Barnsley and South Yorkshire, to bring fresh perspectives and innovative ideas to the Board so that we are truly representative of the people we serve.

We are seeking Trustees to support Barnsley Civic over the next three years. We are especially looking for people who have strengths in any of the following areas: fundraising, marketing and communications, community engagement, finance, venue/operational management, HR, business/commercial development, and the arts sector. We would very much welcome your unique skills and experiences to enrich our organisation.

To express your interest in joining our Board and for further details, please contact us. We look forward to welcoming you into the Barnsley Civic family and embarking on this transformative journey together.

What are we looking for?

We’re looking for individuals who care about making a difference and will use their knowledge, skills and
expertise, creativity, and business acumen, to help us drive the organisation forward.

Barnsley Civic is committed to increasing the diversity of its Board, staff and services as an essential aspect of its drive to continued success in the future. The Board is also keen to receive applications from younger members of the local communities that Barnsley Civic serves, both from Barnsley and also from South Yorkshire.

We are looking for Trustees who can add very specific experience to the Board and who can bring at least one of the following skills to support Barnsley Civic over the next three years (with the possibility to renew for a further term of three years):

  • Finance
  • Fundraising
  • HR
  • Programming (both performance and visual arts)
  • Venue management
  • Business/commercial development
  • Community engagement

What difference will you make?

If you are someone who has a passion for the performing and visual arts, an understanding of charity governance, and an appreciation for the arts' role in supporting education and community development, we invite you to join us. Your commitment will include attending performances and outreach events, helping attract resources, and participating in Board meetings as required.

By becoming a Board member, you will not only be part of an exciting moment of change but will also play a vital role in shaping the future of the arts in Barnsley. We are eager to have passionate and committed individuals like you on board.
