What will you be doing?

As Assistant Funding Officer for Plymouth Environmental Action (PEA), your role will be to support our Funding Officer in researching and applying for grants, as well as working with our committee to plan conservation projects and events. You will use your written communication skills to excite potential funders about our work, enabling our organisation to keep working for nature and for people. 

What we are looking for in an Assistant Funding Officer:

You will have a passion for the environment, as well as excellent written communication skills and an ability to work well in a team. Previous experience in writing funding applications is preferred, but transferable skills and experiences will be considered. We are looking for someone who can commit to attending our monthly committee meetings (evenings) and to spending time researching and applying for grants. Being based in or near Plymouth would be preferable in order to build a local network, and would also offer the opportunity to combine this role with that of a Conservation Leader, if desired.

Assistant Funding Officer responsibilities (alongside Funding Officer):

  • Researching grant opportunities for PEA
  • Applying for grants, with assistance from Funding Officer/committee
  • Working with Treasurer to develop budgets for grant applications
  • Working as part of the committee to develop new projects and events
  • Attending monthly committee meetings

  • A love of the environment and the ability to work well with others
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Time to spend researching and writing funding applications throughout the year
  • Ability to attend monthly committee meetings and share basic organisational responsibilities to keep PEA running smoothly

Desirable

  • Experience of writing funding applications, or similar transferable skills
  • Experience of volunteering or working in the conservation or non-profit sector

What are we looking for?

Previous experience in writing funding applications is preferred, but transferable skills and experiences will be considered. 

Essential

  • Willingness to dedicate time to researching and writing funding applications throughout the year
  • Ability to attend monthly committee meetings (evenings: alternately online and in-person) to organise future events, develop new projects and share basic organisational responsibilities to keep PEA running smoothly

  • Experience of creating budgets
  • Experience of volunteering or working in the conservation or non-profit sector

As part of PEA, you will be contributing to our mission to involve and inspire people to conserve the natural environment within their local community whilst having fun, getting out in the fresh air and making new friends. You will also be helping us continue to offer our land management services to landowners, in order to restore nature and manage landscapes beneficially.
