We are looking for instructors to help on our weekly training nights or be able to commit to a particular night each week

You'll assist the instructors in running lessons, activities etc that help cadets progress through their cadet training programme, gaining qualifications and confidence as they go. 

What will you be doing?

Trowbridge Sea Cadets is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers, who have the enthusiasm and passion for working with young people from a variety of backgrounds. We are a long-established Sea Cadet unit that has provided life-changing opportunities for many young people. We currently have approx. 40 cadets who come from all over the local area and we would like you to support with the educational side of the unit.   

With your experience and skills, you will be helping young people to flourish in area such as  – catering, archery, meteorology, navigation, orienteering, first aid, engineering, photography, marketing, football coaching, IT, social media, finance - there is no limit. Whatever your interest, you could bring it to our unit. 

There are also training courses available for you to develop new skills, boost your CV and support you in this role.  

Lots of enthusiasm is required

What are we looking for?

Do you have three years or more, professional experience in positions with skills or knowledge such as: 

  • Working with diverse young people 
  • Instructing/teaching/mentoring experience 
  • Public speaking 

Are you a: 

  • A good communicator 
  • Work effectively with a team 
  • Motivate and encourage others 
  • Role model to young people 

Many variations of skills and knowledge areas can be useful to our unit, but the right attitude and a passion for improving the lives of young people are essential. If you think you are a match to the skills and knowledge and you could make a difference, please get in touch. 

What difference will you make?

You will play a key role in making a positive difference to young people in the junior section of Trowbridge Unit aged from 10 to 12 who are often struggling in today’s world and their communities. 

Before you apply

Sea Cadets understand the responsibilities people have outside volunteering. So, we offer a flexible approach, recognising that everyone has skills to offer and that volunteering needs to fit around peoples' busy lives - so if a desire to support local young people is there, please contact us and we will arrange for a unit visit. 

All instructors will be required to undertake mandatory induction training, DBS (paid for by the Sea Cadets) and courses to support your own personal development within your role.
