Welcome to Reach Volunteering. We are a community and registered charity that connects people, skills and good causes.

To apply for this role, and any other on our platform, you need to be based in the UK, have at least three years of experience using the skills you wish to volunteer in a professional capacity or have lived experience (for trustee roles). Read more about our criteria.

We are seeking a professional to lead the development of our first annual report, combining qualitative and quantitative research with strong storytelling and content creation.

What will you be doing?

We are looking for a skilled and adaptable professional to lead the production of our first annual report, combining data-driven insight with compelling storytelling.

This role requires the ability to conduct light research, analyse impact data, and craft a report that is both informative and inspiring. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working independently, asking the right questions, and transforming information into a narrative that resonates with stakeholders.

What are we looking for?

Writing & Content Development

Draft all sections of the annual report, including:

  • Organisational history and milestones
  • Year-in-review highlights
  • Program impact and outcomes
  • Financial or performance summaries (provided internally)
  • Testimonials, case studies, and partner/staff quotes
  • Strategic vision and next steps
  • Create clear, concise, and engaging narratives aligned with the organisation’s tone and audience.

 Research & Impact Analysis

  • Conduct light data analysis (trends, comparisons, percentages)
  • Work with staff to identify key metrics and impact evidence
  • Interview key stakeholders (e.g., beneficiaries, staff, partners) to collect qualitative insights
  • Summarise findings in plain language, highlighting both achievements and lessons learned

Coordination & Delivery

  • Develop a clear content outline and timeline for report development
  • Coordinate feedback and review cycles with staff
  • Deliver a final report draft ready for design/layout
  • Optional: Assist with basic layout or visual presentation (if using tools like Canva or InDesign)

 Requirements & Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Proven experience writing annual reports, impact reports, or similar publications
  • Ability to conduct basic quantitative and qualitative research
  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills
  • Experience working with nonprofits, NGOs, or social impact organisations
  • Ability to work independently, manage deadlines, and communicate clearly
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word/Google Docs, Excel/Sheets, and basic data visualisation (charts, tables)

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) principles or Theory of Change
  • Experience with stakeholder interviewing and synthesising qualitative insights
  • Familiarity with basic design tools (e.g. Canva, Adobe Express) or collaboration with designers
  • Understanding of inclusive language and accessibility in written content

What difference will you make?

The Annual Report Writer & Impact Researcher will play a pivotal role in shaping how our organisation is perceived by funders, partners, and the communities we serve. By transforming raw data, stories, and achievements into a clear, compelling narrative, they will help us articulate our value, demonstrate accountability, and inspire continued support. Their work will directly contribute to increased stakeholder trust, stronger fundraising efforts, and a deeper understanding of our impact — both within and beyond the organisation.
