Welcome to Reach Volunteering. We are a community and registered charity that connects people, skills and good causes.

To apply for this role, and any other on our platform, you need to be based in the UK, have at least three years of experience using the skills you wish to volunteer in a professional capacity or have lived experience (for trustee roles). Read more about our criteria.

Help us shape the future of a growing CIC by advising on grant strategy and funding applications that support vulnerable individuals facing poverty, disability, and financial hardship.

What will you be doing?

Fortis Advisory CIC is a newly formed Community Interest Company supporting vulnerable people through benefit and debt advice, financial guidance, and our innovative Fortis FoodGuard voucher scheme. We exist to fill the gaps in existing service delivery for individuals experiencing poverty, disability, addiction, or financial hardship.

We’re seeking an Advisory Board Member (volunteer) with experience in grant funding and bid development to provide occasional strategic advice and help us build a strong, fundable model. This is not a hands-on role and does not carry formal governance responsibility, but your insight could make a meaningful impact.

You’ll help us:

  • Shape our approach to funders, programmes, and language.
  • Review early-stage funding applications and partnership ideas.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen bids and meet funder priorities.
  • Ensure we remain aligned with our community-focused mission.

This advisory role is perfect for someone with experience in:

  • UK grant funding landscape (statutory or charitable)
  • Bid writing or funding assessment
  • Working with community groups, non-profits, or social enterprises

The role is flexible and remote, with a light commitment of around 1-2 hours per month, depending on your availability and interest.

You’ll be part of a small, passionate team building something meaningful from the ground up. Your guidance could directly help unlock funding to deliver frontline support to those who need it most.

What are we looking for?

We’re looking for someone with experience in grant funding, bid writing, or fundraising strategy - ideally within the charity, social enterprise, or public sector space. You might be a former fundraiser, consultant, grant assessor, or simply someone who understands what makes a strong funding application stand out.

Key skills and qualities:

  • Knowledge of the UK grant funding landscape
  • Experience writing, reviewing, or supporting funding applications
  • Ability to give constructive feedback on wording, structure, and fit with funder priorities
  • A collaborative, flexible approach - willing to advise without needing to be hands-on
  • An interest in helping smaller community-focused organisations grow sustainably

You don’t need to be an expert in everything - we’re looking for someone who’s happy to share their insight occasionally and help steer us in the right direction. If you’ve supported or advised grant-funded organisations before, we’d love to hear from you.

What difference will you make?

Your input will help Fortis Advisory CIC secure the funding we need to support people in poverty, living with disabilities, or facing financial exclusion. You won’t be asked to write bids yourself, unless you choose to, but your guidance will shape how we position our work and give us the best chance of success. Your knowledge and perspective will play a vital role in helping us grow sustainably and serve more people through trusted partnerships.

Before you apply

Please include a short message explaining why this role interests you and how your experience could support our mission. If shortlisted, we’ll invite you to a brief informal video call. No additional forms are required.
