Welcome to Reach Volunteering. We are a community and registered charity that connects people, skills and good causes.

RSPB is looking for a creative volunteer to manage social media, create engaging content, and promote the Middleton Lakes site. Join a supportive team, gain experience, and help raise the reserve's profile. Flexible hours, with expenses covered.

What will you be doing?

RSPB Middleton Lakes is a stunning nature reserve, and we are looking for a creative and organised volunteer to help promote it via social media. Your role will include writing, filming, and creating engaging content to highlight the beauty and stories of the reserve, with a focus on increasing visitors. You will also have the chance to launch and manage an Instagram account for the site.

In return, you will work with a supportive team, gain experience in social media marketing, and contribute to raising the profile of Middleton Lakes. You will also be part of the wider RSPB volunteer network, with access to resources, training, and social events.

We are seeking someone who is creative, organised, comfortable with Facebook, Instagram, and X, enjoys storytelling, and can plan content. The role requires a commitment of 1-2 days per week, with flexible options for remote work. Expenses will be reimbursed per RSPB policy.

What are we looking for?

  • Comfortable and experienced with Facebook, X and Instagram including the planning tools for these platforms
  • Creative storytelling which can engage with a variety of audience
  • Self-organised
  • Comfortable planning in advance
  • Understanding and interest in using social media as a marketing tool
  • Comfortable walking out on site to take photos or create film using whatever tools you have – a phone is perfectly ok!

What difference will you make?

Your input will be crucial in raising awareness of RSPB Middleton Lakes by creating engaging social media content, including posts, photos, and videos. Your work as a volunteer will highlight the beauty and unique stories of the reserve, helping to attract more visitors and increase its visibility. By managing social media channels, including potentially launching an Instagram account, you  will help expand the site’s reach, drive footfall, and connect with a wider audience. Through creative storytelling and effective social media marketing, your efforts will support the long-term growth and promotion of the reserve, making a lasting impact on the community and conservation efforts.
