Become a Cubs Scout Team Leader and run our curious Cub Pack

What will you be doing?

Do you hear that? Those distant howls of laughter and yells of excitement? No, it’s not the sound of animals. It’s coming from your local Scouts meeting place. Want to join in the fun?

We have the young people and we have an experienced section team we just need that person to pull it together.

We’re looking for a team leader to work with other adults within the group to create a safe place for the young people in our community to have fun and learn.

The pack meets on a Tuesday evening at our Headquarters in Eastville, run by a Cub Scout Leader and a team of assistants. The key role of all adults in the pack is to ensure that every Cub gets as much as possible out of the evening, with gentle encouragement to take part in all our activities in a safe and welcoming environment.

As the Cub Scout Leader, you’ll have overall responsibility for the running of the Pack, implementing the programme of activities, and administrative tasks such as managing the payment of subscriptions, updating Pack records, liaising with other Sections in the Group and ordering badges. You’ll also take a lead role in running events at Pack meeting such as inspections, investitures, flag break and “Grand Howl”.

There is plenty of support with the current Pack leadership team, including support for administrative tasks and coordinating the programme of activities and rota of parent helpers.

We promise you’ll feel energised, excited, and enthusiastic (OK, and maybe slightly worn out), but one thing’s for sure, you’ll definitely be back for more.

You’ll never be bored when you’re helping at Cubs.

What are we looking for?

You don’t need to have been a Scout before, or have any knowledge of Scouting. We’re looking for someone with enthusiasm, a willingness to get involved and help provide a great programme to the young people in the Section.

Your main tasks will be to act as a “figurehead” and to coordinate the role of the other Leaders and volunteers, so we’d love someone with volunteer management experience.

Experience working with children and young people in either formal or informal settings would be very useful.

What difference will you make?

You might be giving skills for life to future technicians, musicians, or even politicians. No matter who they are, our Cubs need people like you to guide them. Whether you’re baking up a storm, or deep diving into the world of synchronised swimming, everyone can explore their hobbies at Cubs (and even discover some new ones).

As Cub Scout Team Leader, you’ll have the chance to make an impact on young people’s loves and also, we hope, have some fun along the way.

Before you apply

Our new Cub Scout Leader, as with all volunteers, will be required to have a DBS, and you'll be asked to complete some training modules (some of these are online) - but there is plenty of support available. We can arrange for you to shadow the Assistant Leaders for a time until you're familiar with the role, if that would be useful.

Please get in touch if you'd like to apply. Or if you're not sure, you'd be welcome to come along to a meeting, have a chat and find out more.
