We're looking for two new External Trustees to join our Board: one with financial management skills and the other with significant management experience and an interest in potentially becoming our new Chair of the Board.

What will you be doing?

The Roles

We have vacancies for 2 External Trustees to join our Board, on an initial term to 31 July 2021 with potential extension thereafter. The roles are as follows:

External Trustee (Financial Skills)

We’re looking to recruit an External Trustee with skills and experience in financial management, whether in a charity, public or private sector context. Preferably candidates will hold a CCAB qualification or otherwise have equivalent professional experience. A fuller role description and person specification can be found in the attached information pack.

External Trustee (with an interest in being considered for Chair of the Board)

We’re looking for candidates with an interest in being considered for the role of Chair of the Board, with significant management and leadership experience and experience of committee work and chairing meetings. Previous experience as a Trustee and/or Company Director will be an advantage.

Both roles provide an excellent opportunity to bring your skills, experience and insight to help our development as a charity in the pursuit of our strategic goals. We have recently agreed a new strategy to 2022/23 which is due to launch at the end of October 2019. Further details are included in the information pack.

What are we looking for?

Please see the attached Information Pack for full details of the person specification for both roles.

What difference will you make?

This is a fantastic opportunity to bring your skills and experience to help the growth, decision making and effective governance of a growing charity working at the forefront of supporting part-time and distance-learning students. Working as part of an engaged Board of Trustees, the successful candidate will have real scope to get involved in helping to shape our work and our development in delivering our exciting new strategy. Our Board meetings are not just about effective governance, they also provide opportunities to get involved in detailed and interesting conversations on solving problems and inputting new ideas and initiatives to take us forward.

What's in it for the volunteer?

In return for your time, commitment and input across our range of activities you will gain access to ongoing training and support and networking opportunities as well as the chance to develop your skills and experience in our context. You will be making a huge contribution to the organisation which will be valued and appreciated by your fellow Trustees and senior staff. In turn, the role you will perform and the skills and insight you will offer will help us to help our members and will have an impact across our community and our work. We will meet all reasonable expenses incurred as part of performing the role.

Before you apply

Please read the attached comprehensive Information Pack for further information on the roles, our organisation, time commitments, person specifications and how to apply.
