Celebrating Trustees Week

Janet Thorne
Chief Executive at Reach Volunteering

As the UK’s biggest single source of trustees, it will come as no surprise that Trustees Week (4-8 November 2024) is a big cause for celebration at Reach Volunteering.

Throughout the week, we’ll be working with partners across the sector to highlight the importance of trustees, celebrate the great work they are doing and provide information and inspiration for aspiring and existing trustees. Here's a round-up of our highlights:

Thank you to our Reach Trustees

We’ll be saying thank you to our own fantastic Board of Trustees and joining in with the nationwide hashtag #ThankATrustee. We’re so grateful to them for providing invaluable expertise, support and challenge to help us to sustain and grow our platform and achieve our objectives. Together we’ll continue to connect social purpose organisations across the UK with those who want to volunteer their skills to give back and help create a better society for us all. Getting trustee recruitment right

We’ll be putting the spotlight on how to get the right support and information to help every charity and group recruit their ideal trustees.

For organisations

If this is your focus, check out the Trustee Recruitment Cycle which provides a wealth of information in an easily accessible format that you can dip in and out of to help with each stage of the recruitment process.

Advertise your trustee vacancy on the Reach platform

In 2023 charities appointed 1,539 trustees through Reach making us the largest single source of trustees for the sector. Reach has a large and diverse pool of people looking to volunteer their skills as a trustee, offering the opportunity to source not just the right skills to strengthen your organisation, but to access candidates who are far more diverse in terms of age, gender, ethnicity, sexuality and disability than trustees as a whole.

Trustee recruitment via the Reach platform is free for organisations with an income under £1m with a small contribution being requested for larger organisations. See when we charge.

For potential trustees

The #CountMeIn Campaign

New for this year, #CountMeIn is a campaign running throughout Trustees Week designed to inspire more people to become finance trustees and to support charities to find the financial expertise they need to thrive.

With many charities facing financial challenges, from managing budgets to strategic financial planning, trustees with financial skills can provide the guidance and support needed to overcome these hurdles. #CountMeIn will be encouraging all professionals working in finance roles like accountants, bookkeepers, financial advisors to make a difference by sharing their skills with organisations that need them most. By saying “Count Me In,” they’ll not just be helping a charity to manage its finances more effectively; they will also benefit from new experiences, skills, and connections.

#CountMeIn is a collaboration between Embrace Finance, Reach Volunteering, Charterpath, The Honorary Treasurers Forum, Action for Trustee Racial Diversity, ACEV and ICAEW.

Myth busting to attract new trustees

In our recent poll on LinkedIn, 62% of people who responded thought the most common myth about trusteeship is that you need to be a retired professional to qualify. Throughout Trustees Week, we’ll be helping to bust these myths and continue to help attract a diverse mix of people to apply for trustee roles.

Take a look at our myth busting blog.
